Jim Redick

Biography

Jim Redick has served as the Director of Emergency Preparedness and Response for the City of Norfolk, Virginia, for the last five years. He is a Certified Emergency Manager with the International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM) and was awarded the 2012 Virginia Emergency Management Professional of the Year.

Redick was also recently recognized with the IAEM’s Clayton R. Christopher Memorial Award for his outstanding contribution to the overall emergency management program. Redick created Operation Brother’s Keeper, a program similar to the one created in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, through which local, state and federal resources and manpower are able to assist the public through faith-based organizations in Hampton Roads. This partnership has been effective in building community relationships and extending vital resources.

Among the numerous committees on which he serves, Redick built up and chairs Team Norfolk Emergency Operations, serves as Chairperson for the Local Emergency Preparedness Committee, and is on the Board of Directors for Resilient Virginia. He has also developed a committee that unifies community partners’ efforts in mitigation, prevention, preparedness, response and recovery.

The awards he has been presented with recognize unselfish devotion and outstanding contributions to emergency management. Redick has also spoken on the Virginia Governor’s Secure Commonwealth Panel on the high probability and threat of recurrent flooding and sea level rise.
