Jordan Kern
Biography
Dr. Jordan D. Kern is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Forestry and Environmental Resources at NC State University. Previously he was the Associate Director for the Center on Financial Risk in Environmental Systems and a Research Assistant Professor at the Institute for the Environment. Prior to that he was a research associate at BCS, Incorporated in Washington, D.C.
Kern’s research combines power systems engineering, finance and economics, risk management, and hydrology and environmental science. He has taught undergraduate courses in Energy and Material Flow through the Environment, undergraduate and graduate courses in Society and Energy Systems Modeling and Analytics, and co-taught graduate-level courses in Analysis of Water Resource Systems and Managing Environmental Financial Risk.
A member of the Association of Environmental Engineering and Science Professors, Kern is the author of over 10 peer-reviewed articles. Additionally, his articles appear in Greensboro News & Record and HydroReview Magazine and has presented at the Duke University Nicholas Institute for Environmental Policy Solutions, North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences, and North Carolina State University, among others.
Kern has received several awards and grants, including funding for his work on NSF Innovations and the Nexus of Food, Energy and Water Systems, and DOE Productivity Enhanced Algae and Tool-Kits (PEAK).
