Norman Levine

 

Biography

Dr. Norman Levine is an Applied Geologist specializing in the integration of GIS and Remote Sensing Technology in Geologic, Environmental, and Hazards Issues. He works in Geomorphology, Geophysics, Engineering, and Environmental Geology.

In addition to his work as an Associate Professor, Dr. Levine is the Director of the Santee Cooper GIS and Remote Sensing Laboratory, Lowcountry Hazards Center, and South Carolina Earthquake Education Preparedness Center, at the College of Charleston.

Dr. Levine has over 100 publications, including peer-reviewed journal articles, fields guides, and numerous conference proceeding abstracts. He was the editor of the South Carolina Geological Survey and South Carolina Journal of Geology, as well as Grant Reviewer for the panel on SC Water Resources Center’s Implications of Climate Change on Blue and Green Water for the Savannah River Basin.

Dr. Levine is currently a member of the College of Charleston’s Replacement Faculty Search Committee and a Geo-informatics Cognate Advisor for the Data Science Program. He has served on the Board of Directors for Charleston County School of the Arts Black Box Boosters, the Environmental and Engineering Geology Division of the Geologic Society of America, and Synagogue Emanuel. Dr. Levine has also served as board member for the Addlestone Hebrew Academy, The Charleston Jewish Federation, 113 Calhoun Street Foundation, and the Environmental and Engineering Geology Journal Editorial Board.

Since 2005, Dr. Levine has completed work for nearly 60 contracts, grants, and sponsored research projects. He is currently working on Building a Regional Resilience to Water-Related Hazards in the Charleston, SC Region, through the Charleston Resilience Network Initiative and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
